14 weeks pregnant

It should be an enjoyable week for the expectant couple as the hormones have now begun to level off.

What’s Going on with the Baby

Starting to use the hands

Your baby is now about 12.5 centimeters in length, and weighs 55 grams during the fourteenth week of pregnancy. Fingerprints are forming in those little baby fingers, and he or she now has a grip and is starting to use the hands, though more out of reflex than anything. The hair is emerging in the head and eyebrows, forming a hair mask called Lanugo. The eyes and ears keep on moving to the right position in the face, and the neck is getting longer. The baby’s body is also moving so that the correct position will be achieved upon delivery. During this week, the baby is now getting all the nourishment from your placenta.

Breathing amniotic fluid

Your baby is now breathing amniotic fluid in and out of the baby lungs, and is urinating amniotic fluid as well. When you stop to look into it, amniotic fluid is really an amazing substance. It regenerates itself every three or so hours. Although we know that it is partially made up of the baby’s urine, modern medicine still doesn’t know where the rest of the amniotic fluid is made.

What’s Going on with Mommy

Pregnancy constipation

Pregnancy constipation may become your problem starting this week, since your hormones calms your bowel muscles, making them to become less efficient. If so, your best defense would be to increase both your fluid and fiber intake. Drink lots of water and eat fiber-rich food such as strawberries, brussel sprouts and whole wheat bread.

Now for Daddy

Take pictures of your partner while her belly is slowly expanding so you can have fun watching it grow. It’s also funny to look back at the photographs you’ve taken after your baby’s birth
